Paper Reading Notes

I don’t try to turn every paper into a perfect summary. I record what I understood, what I questioned, and what still needs another pass.

The reading method below starts with a short relevance check and leaves room for deeper passes later.

Three-pass reading

  1. Pass 1 — Relevance

Read the abstract and figures, then decide why the paper matters now.

  2. Pass 2 — Structure

Follow the method, assumptions, experiments, and main limitations.

  3. Pass 3 — Details

Work through equations, reproduce a result, or test part of the idea in code.

  • Do not read every paper at the same depth.
  • Track questions, not only summaries.
  • Reward consistency.
  • Revisit important papers.
